Cranes II.

We visited the Opava Museum for an educational programme about people persecuted by Nazi and then by communists. We learned how they felt about that and what they do with their lives later. Some were avesome - they managed to be happy still, they didn´t live in hate. The lady said that the best revenge is to live well. It must be hard to really live by this quote.

We have planned to fold some cranes in the square ourside  and to put them at the soldiers memorial but it was raining - so we folded them inside. Small ones for the memorial and big one for the school.

Sweden visited Wasa

We have visited the, for some of you, well known ship Wasa in the Wasa museum with our pupils from grade four.
The ship was i warship which sank on its first trip outside Stockholm in 1628. 1961 the ship was brought up from the sea. It´s now the only ship from the 1600s in the world that stands on the ground. The thing that strikes you when you visit the museum is how huge the ship was. It is also full of symbols in the form of Roman Emperor , mythical creatures and laughing , contemptuous faces. Anything to put themselves in respect of the enemies . The museum also displays a variety of objects that have been salvaged from the ship. You really learn a lot about how life could be on board a 1600 - century ship . You also understand how the pursuit of status and honor ran kings and others to anything at this time , even to build ships that didn´t even survived their first trip . It was an exciting and learning visit to the Wasa Museum !
Our younger students like the museum a lot, it was a fantastic day. They have also made some works about this historical period but we didn´t manage to put them on the blog before the holiday suddenly come, we´ll share it with you in august!
We wish you all a long and nice summer-holiday!

Sweden visited museum

We´ve visited the Royal Armoury in Stockholm with pupils from grade six. The Armoury has a large collection of objects from the Swedish kings and queens from the 1500s onwards. It was very exciting but a little scary to see king Gustav II Adolf bloody shirts that he wore when he was killed at the battle of Lutzen. It felt like the madness of war came a little closer. We also took the opportunity to go for a walk in the old town of Stockholm and look for the example at the site of the Stockholm Bloodbath, 1520. An interesting day full of history!

Cranes, war, dance and folding

A teacher from Västerängsskolan in Bålsta, Cathrine Persson Frohm, has been to Hiroshima this winter. She showed us her pictures from the memory place of Sadako and told us about the amazing journey. We have learned about Hiroshima and the atomic bomb, we have made paper cranes with nearly blood, sweat and tears, we have been dancing and we have made this trailer about some of our work. Hope you will enjoy it!
